Ladies night is a play based around the real life events that happened on Friday the 13th of March 1925 in the Monto in Dublin, once one of Europe biggest red light district. Ladies night was staged for 4 nights during the Five Lamps Arts Festival in April 2014 in the Annesley House (Dublin 3) with a cast of 7. It was sold out every night.

 

Ladies Night is the account of a fateful night in March 1925 that spelled the end for the once lively area known as the Monto, once one of Europe’s biggest red light district. The story is told from the perspective of three Madams who are caught on the cusp of history between the old ways of the empire and the formation of Irelands free state combined with the rising power of the church. Based around the real life events that happened on Friday the 13th of March 1925 this play is about giving a voice to the larger than life women running the brothels of Monto, known for being frequented by everyone from James Joyce to the British Royal family. Today, even the names of the streets have been changed to leave no trace of its former decadence.Ladies Night will also feature live music from the era. Through storytelling and songs, you will be given the unique opportunity to go back in a time erased from our history books...
